Romain Grosjean very nearly blew up his chance in Formula One after he returned to the sport in 2012. Hired to drive for Lotus, the same Enstone-based team with which he made his F1 debut three years earlier, the Frenchman made a promising start to his campaign before nearly imploding with several incidents, particularly on opening laps. The most notable accident that he caused was in Belgium in 2012 with a spectacular first-corner incident which handed him a one-race ban. He had even earned the moniker 'first-lap nutcase' for his follies. But he has worked hard to shed that tag, starting with his performance in the second half of 2013. But Grosjean has always been under the radar owing to the cars he drives. He did get some chances and he has grabbed them without further invitation. Gifted as he is, he is more than capable of coming up with some strong performances. He showed it to newcomers Haas in 2016 scoring all of their points at the most opportune time. Time is running out for the Frenchman to bag a drive at the sharp end of the grid and he knows it.
