Coming from the McLaren Young Driver's programme in 2013, Stoffel Vandoorne remained the team's third choice driver. That was until 2016 when he replaced an injured Fernando Alonso for the Bahrain GP. The youngster managed to pip the experienced Jenson Button to finish 12th in qualifying and ended the race at 10th position. Following the 2009 world champion's exit from Formula One after a disappointing 2016 season, Vandoorne was announced as McLaren's second rider for the 2017 season. While the youngster has a lot to prove, there is no doubting his potential. However, he will need to convert that into results as he replaces one of the most experienced drivers in F1. A tough task ahead for the lad, but it would be interesting to see as to how he deals with the burdens of F1 and what he ultimately transpires into.
